About Anthony Nolan

Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with blood cancer and blood disorders. Every day, they match incredible individuals willing to donate their blood stem cells or bone marrow to people with blood cancer and blood disorders who desperately need lifesaving transplants.

It all began in 1974. With her three-year-old son Anthony in urgent need of a bone marrow transplant, Shirley Nolan set up the world’s first register to match donors with people in desperate need.

Now, Anthony Nolan helps three people each day find that lifesaving match. They also conduct world-class research into stem cell matching and transplants, so that they can make sure that every person in need gets the best possible treatment.

Join our donor register –
Every year, 1,800 people in the UK need a bone marrow transplant.

Anthony Nolan can only find a match for half of the people in need of a transplant, so they need more people to register as donors.

We especially need young men and people from black, Asian, and ethnic minority backgrounds to join the register as these groups are under-represented on the bone marrow register.

Many people don’t realise how easy it is to join the register and how simple it is to donate bone marrow.
